PIC 10Fxxx DIP programming adapter

One of the interesting features of the 10Fxxx devices is their unusually small size that makes them ideal for certain applications where space is at a premium and where you don't need much code space. But the extreme small size also makes it difficult to experiment with it since you can't insert the SOT-23 package in the breadboard nor in the programmer. Though Microchip offers the device in an 8-pin DIP, it is not of much help since the pinout is different and you cannot use your existing programmer to program it unless you use ICSP. Or, you need to buy the PIC 10F Hobby Kit.

The alternative is to make the DIP adapter yourself. I used enamelled copper wires (Gauge around 33) to connect a 10F206 in SOT-23 package to a machine pin 8-pin socket. Attached is a photograph of what I made. The other file shows the connections between the PIC and the socket. NOTE THAT THE PIC IN THE CENTRE OF THE SOCKET IS UPSIDE DOWN. Since you would need only one for the purpose of trying out your design and code, making a PCB is not necessary unless you plan to make and sell them.

Any comments?
