_hread info  Overview  Group

The _hread function reads data from the specified file. This function is provided for compatibility with 16-bit versions of Windows. Win32-based applications should use the ReadFile function.

long _hread(

    HFILE hFile,

// handle to file

    LPVOID lpBuffer,

// pointer to buffer for read data

    long lBytes

// length, in bytes, of data buffer

   );

Parameters

hFile
Identifies the specified file.
lpBuffer
Pointer to a buffer that contains the data read from the file.
lBytes
Specifies the number of bytes to be read from the file.

Return Values

The return value indicates the number of bytes actually read from the file. If the number of bytes read is less than lBytes, the function has reached the end of file (EOF) before reading the specified number of bytes.

If the function fails, the return value is HFILE_ERROR. To get extended error information, call GetLastError.

If you are attempting to read from a floppy drive that does not have a floppy disk, the system displays a message box prompting the user to retry the operation. To prevent the system from displaying this message box, call the SetErrorMode function with SEM_NOOPENFILEERRORBOX.
