DIR + Listing Files in a DirectoryLists files contained in a directory.
VERSION
PC-DOS 2.0+ (revised from 1.1)
MS-DOS equivalent: DIR (2.0+)
TYPE
Internal
SYNTAX
DIR [d:][path][filename] [W]
OPTIONS
[d:][path][filename] Specify the drive letter, path
name, or file name when you
wish to obtain a directory
listing of files that are not
in the current directory.
/P Tells DOS to pause when the
screen has been filled. To see
the next screen of file names,
press any key.
/W Displays a directory showing
only file names in a wide
format- -five names across
each line.
DIR is used to display the contents of a directory as well
as the file size in bytes, the date and time of last
modification, the number of bytes available on the disk, and any
subdirectories under the current directory.
EXAMPLES
DIR C:
displays the contents of the current working directory on drive
C.
DIR C:*.MAC
displays only those files in the current working directory of
drive C that have the .MAC extension.
NOTE
If you have used the /V option with the FORMAT command, the
first line of the DIR listing will report the name of the disk
label. If you did not label your disk, this line reads
Volume in drive x has no label
This information is not provided in early versions of the DIR
command. The DIR command does not list hidden files that are
created by the FORMAT and the SYS commands. The CHKDSK command
lists these files. The /W and /P options affect only how the
files are displayed (wide or with pauses between screenfuls), not
the content of what is displayed on the screen.
