OS/2, fast Pentium, and David Tait's PIC16C84 programmer

Is there someone having experiences
* using ultra-cheap programmers (like David Tait's, Henk Schaer's
or LUDIPIPO)
* on FAST PC's (P133...)
* under OS/2 WARP
I already *KNOW* David's PIC84FAQ and some hints he gave there,
and the various delays in the PP.C program varieties,
and I have seen once a programmer circuit layout showing an additional
555-Timer to produce an independent timing (Steve Marchant July 96).
The use of a small timing source on the programmer sounds to me like a
good idea. Why not using one "extra" PIC for managing the programming ?
Any experiences ?
Of course, I am aware of the multi-tasking environment.
* So, is there anyone having a kind of "PIC84 for OS2", preferably in C
(for example using the emx compiler) and with a reliable timing
resource on that programmer ?
Tom
