Hi group,
I have about 80 12 x 2 LCD displays - brand new - for sale. They are
leftovers from a huge batch I bought last year. They are great displays
with LED back light and a standard Hitachi interface.
The displays are $8.00 each for quantity one. I can work out a discount
for larger quantities. If you are interested, you can see the details
at: http://pic.rocklizard.org/LCDSALE.htm . I have specs, pictures and
data sheets.
More info on the price and shipping methods/cost are at:
http://pic.rocklizard.org/Ordering.htm
If you have any questions please feel free to email me at chris (add @
here) rocklizard.org.
Hope everyone has a good weekend!

I'm interested in a few, but as the other poster said the price is a bit
high. Is it safe to assume the 2 row connector it talks about is a normal
0.1" IDC plug?

Hi,
I set a price based on the prices I've seen around the net for the same
display. If I've missed a cheap source somewhere I would be happy to
lower the price. I'm not interested in making big bucks, just selling
off something I don't need and giving everyone a good deal (or trying to
at least!)
Keep in mind that my shipping is cheap (no "handling") and make me an
offer; we can go from there. Again, these are new, unused, in the
packaging. I bought them in bulk, not from surplus or anything like that.
If you want to buy a bunch of them, I can safely pack 15 in a $9.00
priority mail box which will lower the final cost + shipping price.
And, yes, the plug is 0.1" spacing, dual row.
Thanks!

I bought some of those displays about a year ago for about the
same price(not from Chris), and I thought they were a good deal -
they are very nice displays, compact, with wide viewing angle and
good contrast.
Cheerful regards,

by chance I bought 1$/pc, then I sell half of them at 1.7$/pc.
Now, on my hand I have 400 of 2*16, free to me.
If some one need, I can sell at $3/pc, I have 200% profit still.

Electronics goldmine has the same display for $7.95 (surplus)
<http://www.goldmine-elec-products.com/prodinfo.asp?number=G13745> I'm not
sure if that makes tis a good deal or a bad deal though :-)

Seems OK to me, for "new" stock as opposed to surplus. I'm not
sure how "new but second-hand" should figure into things...
However...
I don't think every [AD] message ought to result in a pricing
debate/discussion. Take it, leave it, or negotiate with the
original poster. Please.
Thanks

Left over from a production run IS "surplus" (surplus to needs).
Surplus can be recent production or old production (sometimes called
NOS => New Old Stock). Of course the latter might have problems with
solderability etc.

Amen to that.

Hi group,
Based on the high price comments here I have lowered the price of the
12x2 LCD displays to $7.00 each plus shipping. Buy 4 or more and the
price is $6.50 each. If you buy a serial driver chip (see my web site)
I'll include a display for $5.00.
Here is a summary of the displays I'm selling:
1. Are new and individually packaged.
2. Have a green/yellow adjustable LCD back light.
3. Very clear, sharp, wide angle, bright, and adjustable high-contrast
display.
4. Have an attached cable and 2 row female plug with 0.1" spacing. You
can also remove the cable and easily solder direct to the display board.
5. Nice and compact and they have mounting holes.
5. Are not surplus or new old stock.
Some other details:
1. Shipping is cheap.
2. Any payment method except credit card is fine (I can take PayPal if
you really want to pay that way, but I'd like to avoid it since I don't
like or trust them.)
3. I'm happy to ship outside the USA if we can work out a shipping and
payment arrangement.
4. If you are a high school or college student send me an email and we
can work out a bigger discount if you would like some displays for a
class project or for experimentation.
If you are interested or would like more information - including
pictures, specs, data sheets and sample PIC code - see my web site at
http://pic.rocklizard.org
I also have a nice PIC based serial driver chip that I designed for
these and other Hitachi based displays. If you are new to PICs and/or
driving LCD displays or if you need a fast and easy serial solution then
you might find these interesting. Information on the serial driver chip
can be found at my web site.
Please contact me off-list for questions, orders or other comments. My
email address is on my web site or you can email me by sending mail to
"chris" at my domain name (@rocklizard.org)
If someone could point me to one of these cheaper sources I'd appreciate
it. I have not found any NEW or non-surplus displays on the web for the
price I'm paying (or asking). I do have a regular need for small LCD's
so I'm always looking for good sources and pricing. I'd appreciate any
pointers.
Finally, I would be willing to trade some of these for new 16x2, 16x4 or
larger displays or other electronic/PIC related stuff. Send me an email
if you are interested in trading.
Thanks for the comments.
Chris

LOL. This is a great example of the benefits (or drawbacks, depending on
whether you're buying or selling) of global free trade! ;-D
microsoftwarecontrol -- do these LCDs have a backlight?

I strongly disagree. If someone knows that there's a less expensive source
of a part that's being advertised, by all means post it.
I believe James (the host) would agree with this statement.
