'[EE]: Xilinx download cable PCB?'

Hey all,
I wanted to start playing with CPLDs and hopefully soon
thereafter FPGAs.  So I was looking around the net for PCB artwork for
a parallel port download cable.  More specifically the xilinx download
cable (schematic here: http://tinyurl.com/6nu2j), but I think they are
one in the same?

Anyways has anyone on the list created a PCB for this I could use?  Or
come across it?  It must have been done a million times before.  I
could design a PCB for it, but why reinvent the wheel?

Thanks in Advance,
Aaron

Hi Aaron...

I have to tell you that a piece of perfboard inside a DB-25 housing is all
you really need :-) Or buy one of the cables on eBay -- they're really not
much more than doing it yourself.

Also, be aware that messiong with FPGAs really isn't any more complex
than CPLDs -- well, at least that's my opinion. Infact, for hobbyist
purposes, I prefer FPGAs over CPLDs...although I guess commercial reasons
could sway that the other way.

I currently hack around with Altera Cyclones with PROMs....FYI.

For the CoolRunner-II I use the MSP430-JTAG from Olimex. Just have to build
an DB25-DB25 adapter to change some of the wires that go to the parallel
port, as the Xilinx software uses other pins than TI's.
