You mean Veroboard ? Far from being fictitious it actually exists. It
really does, I've seen it. Well, some guy showed me a picture of
something in the middle distance that might have been Veroboard.
Santa was holding it, Elvis was pointing at it
Seriously though, Veroboard is everywhere, a very common product
you can get easily from any electronics supplier. I believe it's part of
APW now (http://www.apw.com)

Hi Kieren,
Yeap that is the stuff :o)
The hole spacing will be 2.54mm (0.1")

Kat.

But do be aware that there has in the past been stuff made with 0.156 inch
spacing, but it is pretty rare these days. It does pay to double check
though when ordering, as I am aware that I can still order the 0.156 inch
stuff in the UK.

Not sure what the strip board is. But you might
do much better using the DIP Board, a "related
products".
It looks like it has pads you can solder the dip
sockets to, as well as discreet components.
And you will not need tool to break up strips on
the dip board. But you will need small gauge
solid wire. I would recommend 30 gauge wire wrap
wire. Which means you need a way to strip such a
small wire, and the hand wire wrap tool has a
striper on it as well as a wrap and unwrap bit.
Now you have the tool and wire, maybe get some
wire wrap sockets and ........... it never ends.
