'[EE]: Sensing electrical field'

I have a question: I need to sense an electrical field (ac) of about 60
kHz frequency and several V/m coming from a spherical source about 2 cm
across, in a cubical space of about 1x1x1 ft. The sphere is mostly at the
center of the cube most of the time. The question is what is better for
sensor surfaces: small discs/spheres on three adjacent cube faces, three
surfaces as above, or three adjacent edges. I lean towards the edges. The
goal is to determine deviation from the center of the cube (the source is
amplitude stabilized). What do you think ? And would a half-tube shield
behind each edge shield the ambient sufficiently ?
