Rob,

I have a little bit of information, not much though, just
a few links at:

http://www.geocities.com/researchtriangle/lab/6584/xtpic.html

The lack of information on the internet surprised
me when I first started looking at them. They have a FLASH version and
a $99.00 development kit. The power consumption is VERY GOOD, and even
Digikey carries a version. I think there are two main reasons, one is the
availability to hobbiests and students, and the fact that they are newer and
in
some screwy packages (PLCC isn't too bad, but 56pin SSOP 100 pin QFP).
They are just recently this year releasing them in smaller, easier to
prototype packages. Maybe I'll dig out my development kit and start working
with them again after I finish my DS1620 project. Once I finish a few
projects,
I'll put them on my website and let everybody know!!

Best of luck,
Steve

Are you sure TI is not owned my Microsoft? It sounds rather like the silicon
version of them!!!

If there is one thing I think Microsoft has given us that we could
have done without, it is this increase in acceptance of defects in
computer software and hardware.  Restart, reboot, reinstall.

Watch out, because this defect trend will begin to hit societal
infrastructure systems soon.

TI is introcucing a series of msp430 variants with on board 12-bit AtoD, 8K
to 60K of flash memory, on board reference, an analog comparator, hardware
multiplier, two serial ports and 2 16-bit pwm timers. Believe it or not, the
8K version will sell for $2.95 @ qty 1k.

It's getting really had to resist this part!

That's not bad for *anything* with 64 pins let alone a 16 bit core micro.
Too bad they don't have the FLASH + LCD driver combo, AFAIK, no one does.

It seems to be missing any instructions for paging, though. ;-)

I've started a page for the MSP430 and other TI processors at
http://www.piclist.com/../ti
or
http://www.piclist.com/techref/default.asp?url=ti

Please contribute any information you have for this processor.

If there is enough interest, I'll push for a [MSP]: topic on the PICList.

My first thought is "Ick! That'd muddy up a list that looks like it is
sailing smooth."

But perhaps a tag that indicates other PIC like micros: [notPIC]: [PIC-ish]:
[Unbeliever]:

Yes, I basically agree with Rob. What are there now - about 47
categories? How about some nice generic "catch all" category
for MSP ---> like [OT].
