'[EE] Digital oscilloscope for $600 -- Rigol DS1052'

I've heard people mention that Rigol scopes have a very Tektronix-like feel
to them. At less than half the price of a comparable Tek scope (TDS2002B)
and in many ways superior (logic analyzer option, 8 kpts versus 2.5), it
looks tempting. What's the catch?
If you own or have used a Rigol, I would really appreciate your input. With
more people involved in R&D now, we can use another digital scope.
There are a couple of things that I'm not 100% clear on:
- When referring to memory depth, what is "long memory"?
- USB storage: does it mean that this scope can save to a thumb drive?
- What is the Ultrascope software used for? I haven't been able to locate
the screenshots anywhere.
Thanks in advance!

Elektor last year did a write up on digital scopes, can't find the
exact article, but found their review of the 1102.
Things they didn't like.
The screen wasn't as clear as the Owon MSO5022 they were comparing it
with.
No battery pack.
The scope runs warm, but does have it's own fan.
Things they liked.
The feel and placement of the controls.
Timebase has a delay facility and a fine control as does the vertical
adjustment.
Memory depth at 8K samples in standard mode, and can be expanded to
512K.
15 different trigger modes.
And a it comes with a gazillion languages available.
Connecting to a PC was apparently easy, the only downside with the PPC
software in their view were the virtual buttons, which they describe
as clumsy.
Over the Owon this is the one they recommended.

Discussion about Rigol MSO especially DS1022CD series can be found here.

(Warning: 40 pages long) :)
I am interested in Rigol DS1052D with Logic Analyzer, and still
looking for review about it.

Thanks, there is lots of info, but it is informative and many people posted
screenshots.
Do you know if Rigol suffers from the same narrow viewing angle problem, as
Owon?

I have the DS1052E here. The only problem I can see with the viewing angle
would
be if you had the screen at or above eye level. Then the grid becomes faint.
Side to side and viewing from above is fine.
