human brain
mouse brain
worm brain
Linux
Windoze
uC
logic
transistor ckts
resistors/fuses

So you see, Bob, the uC is about median level of guarantee.
[of course, some would put Windose at the bottom].

The End.

PS: There is a reliability rating study done a long time ago by/for the US
Army ? It has a mil-std I forget. It lists parts in the order of
reliability.

Because of the amount of testing they undergo chips are among the most
reliable parts in a circuit. Complex circuits done with reliable parts
start to have connection reliability problems soon. Apparently a consumer
TV mainboard of medium complexity is at about the limit where you can't
have a board roll of the production line without a human having to touch
this and that.

By chips, I imagine they meant discrete, and not microcontrollers/etc,
executing code. Yes/no/maybe/sometimes ?????????

Being involved in the space industry, it is quite evident when doing
reliability analysis, that one of the most unreliable parts of an electronic
circuit is the solder joints.

Do you know anything more reliable (and brain-dead) than entropy and then
end ?

That study was old enough not to contain data on programmable chips.
Micros are just chips. The mistakes (beyond any silicon errata) depend on
the programmers.
