I know nothing about optical fibers or fiber optics. Where can I buy optical fibers. I don't want cable, but will buy cable if it contains the fibers I want. If I have to buy cable, what kind of cable would I want? What kind of cable would have lots of thick fibers. I wouldn't care about insulation or the jacket. Thanks for any help, info. Did that once and got 2m lengths from the roadside repairers and they had longer if I'd wanted it (on the QT of course while no one was looking) Nylon isn't too expensive, though naturally not as clear as glass which might limit you, and I think it generally tends to be thicker, 0.5 or 1mm in an overall 2mm thickness including jacket "Thick" is a pretty loose term for glass -- http://www.piclist.com#nomail Going offline? It all depends what you are going to use it for. Different uses have completely different specs. I think RS components have a range of various types - at their normal markup. John, sounds to me like you're trying to use the fibers for side illumination. There are sideglow POF's available in solid core, stranded and gel filled. It's easier and cheaper to buy them rather then roll your own.
