really there is no security reason a mass mailing worm could not spread
through the Linux community
the only reason this doesn't happen is the Linux community on average has
general computer skills far and away better than the windows community. Many
of these are simple programs that for propagation don't exploit software at
all (payloads can be a different story), they just exploit the users(look at
snow white). there is no point saying that "Linux" is safe from this merely
that the Linux userbase isn't susceptible to this form of attack.
really I am just sick of Linux people using this as a weapon against
Microsoft (in the condescending way that Linux people can) if you took a
version of Linux made in 98 and left it unpatched as most windows computers
are the security would be tighter than a windows box for sure, but that's
not to say you couldn't drive a truck through there.
I just wish the Linux advocates/zealots would push their OS on something
other than security. And as for stability use the latest versions don't
compare a 2.4 kernel with everything up to date with a win95 beta, that
reeks like a dodgy used car salesman (or saleswoman, I'm an equal
opportunity ranter).
oh also of note there is a worm spreading through apache servers atm just
thought you'd like to know

sorry guys I had that building up for a fair while.

P.S
I use Linux mandrake for my "work" work.

And Microsoft software represents a greater target for these viruses than
linux.

Just to add my rant, PLEASE check email dates,
that email about the teddy virus was dated 1997,
which is about when that hoax was current. Now it's
VERY old news.
