I certainly wasn't trolling, though I was going for the been-there-done-that laugh.
You mean you've never gone through empty desks looking for a stapler or hole-puncher or other office supplies? (I just happened to find the phone charger.)

no, I just go to the supply cabinet, or tell Vicki I need stuff.

I didn't take your post as a troll either. In fact I'm sitting about 2
meters away from a box containing 6 various wall warts, some of which I
scrounged from a neighboring cubicle when someone was cleaning it out and
made a "discard" pile. Back at my real office, I have a bigger box of
assorted wall warts not associated with particular equipment.

My personal moral standards require that I wait until it hits a trash
or recycle bin. On the other hand, the "electronics scrap" bins serve
as a nice concentrating influence - not so much need to hunt all over.
This week I found a brand new 256MB USB flash drive. Someone had gotten
a new laptop (they come with flash drives here, instead of floppies),
and
I guess they didn't want the drive. It was sitting there, in it's
opened
box, on the pile of 'cardboard recycling.' Had to fish it out; couldn't
have that possible lead source contaminating useful cardboard :-;

Guess this makes my Tektronix 32MB freebie one which I should have declared
as a gift (being a government employee and all that) into something
insignificant ;))
