Yea, it's a love-hate relationship.

You disregard Olin at your peril.....but you need to have a thick skin.

Reminds me of a (well known religious book) verse:

(flame gear on)

"The fear of man is a snare."

(flame gear off)

All in all, I'd prefer to have Olin around....I always read his posts.
And they have helped me (as have a lot of others). So bottom line, he's
valuable.

And I find that I can't help but like him. Even though he scares me. :-)

I don't think it's more difficult than normally; it's just rarer. The
main difference IMO is that you need to be very sure or have a very
thick skin -- more than with many others :)

What I learned from olin's obnoxious behaviour is this:

there's no sense in getting all riled up when someone insults you. Yes
there are rude, disgusting, obnoxious people in this world, but we
have to deal with them. Why? Because they're just another human being.
Nothing more, nothing less. There are 7+ billion of them. One will not
make much of a difference.

I don't care what you think of him, this kind of behavior is
unacceptable from you and everyone else making personal comments.

It is way past time for you all to act like polite adults.

There are better reasons. For instance

1. Beside rude he might be right.
2. The perceived rudeness might be (more) in your mind than in his.
3. You probably think you are never rude, but what do other think? (do
you care?)

Since we are already way off topic I will make this suggestion:
There is a dumb sitcom on TV called "The Big Bang Theory".

Watch it while deciding which of the characters most resembles yourself. At
some point I find that I identify with each of the characters.

Interesting!  You told me offline a while back you were going to do something about Olin, yet here he is still insulting us.  And you want to jump on us for simply stating the obvious.  I'm still waiting to see what you are going to do about him.

Here's my take on Olin.  The majority of his posts are one liners that add no value to the discussion or they are just insults belittling people like he did to Jesse Lackey who in my opinion has made some very worth while contributions to the list in the past.  So I thought to myself, why does Olin even bother posting.  Then I realized every time he posts, he is advertising his business/products.  Yeah, I'd say that's pretty brilliant.

I guess the reality is he has been banned over and over from this list but his position is that this list is his right, not his privledge and so he re-joins it to grace us with his insults.  I rarely post to the list simply because I don't want to take Olin's insults...period.  The last time I did, he insulted me twice, and then gave what he thought was a helpful answer, but he made assumptions that were incorrect and gave me useless advice.  What's the point then.

Good luck,

FJ

Hello, Bob,

you are completely right, it's wise what you`re saying: "...act like polite
adults".

I just hope this is also adressed to Olin...

Peter
