Hey, I am (close enough) an engineer, not a (used car/ tube amp)
*salesman*.  Fair Go!

Tube amps are for musoes and others whose (relative or actual)
financial over-endowment is modestly balanced by their intellectual
challenged-ness (read: gullibility).

The only reason *I* have any tube amps is/ would be that I am a} a
ridiculous hoarder and b} old enough to have been there.  *Not* on any
imaginary technical ground.  If you *really* love the sound, go for the
early 1920s radios and you'll be in seventh heaven.

Should I ever require odd harmonic distortion to soothe my aging ears,
I feel confident to find a suitable semiconductor (probably a FET) to
add it to a suitably linear semiconductor amplifier (such as my 12 year
old Playmaster MosFet kit design), but with insignificant penalty to my
electricity account.

Don't read into my comment too deep.  I agree that many people buy tube
equipment for the sheer nostalgia of owning tube equpiment (or for their
ego).  Like any other audio equpiment, some tube equipment sounds good,
some bad. All said and done, tubes aren't my favorite device.

Not to mention, I *HATE* making an already difficult task harder.
Getting a circuit to sound good is hard enough without having to worry
about the ever changing characteristics of a tube.

No thanks.  I prefer semiconductors.

hehe... that's funny.  My modest 25W FET amp costs about $50/month to keep
on.  Good thing it heats up fast.  (Makes a great space heater.)

Sounds like my Tektronics 525a oscope. I remember when I first saw one
and how impressed I was with it. Then a couple of years ago I saw one at
the flea marketfor $10.00 and I just could not turn it down. When I got
home and pluged it in I soon noticed how much heat it gave off. Funny
but, I dont remeber the heat when I used one in 69.
