PTM: I checked this URL and somehow I got the same feeling as when I first
met the MCI-buss: lots of words with no information. And the only thing we
got was an overpriced buss that was impossible to use for an average
D&R project.

They told somewhere that in the future there will be no parallel printer
port in our PCs. That'll be the day. Just when we were on the edge where
we could do some nice SIMPLE measurements and control devices with a EPP
or ECP -port.

USB will NEVER be a usefull buss for these niche projects if somebody
doesn't deliver a cheap and simple to use chip that takes care of the
protocol. This chip got to cost under 4 US$ and come in 8..18 pin DIL
packet. It got to be such that you can program it with no special devices.

Check out amongst others, the Thesys TH6501 and 6503 - 16 pin, USB to
SPI bus converters - haven't got a price as yet.
It even has a programmable clock out to run your PIC off, so you only
    need one crystal

This said, I'm still holding judgement on USB, even though I'm
designing the stuff - pity it's not peer-to-peer.
