Has anyone seen a PIC being used for an ADSL project?

We've built an ADSL test set controlled by a PIC.  Beyond controlling an ADSL
chip set, the PIC doesn't really do anything ADSL.

Exactly what role did you want the PIC to play in your ADSL project?

If possible take over the role of the chipset...... Sounds a lot
for PIC?

I haven't tried it, but I think you'll find that even a dsPIC is not suited for
the task, even if you're only trying G.Lite.

If you just want to play with PICs and ADSL, you might be able to get a PIC to
handshake and start the synchronization process.  We actually looked into
something like that a few years ago, but it never went anywhere.
