All Amateur Radio Operator type listmembers, I am giving a lecture tonight on using PIC micros in Amateur Radio Applications. I have a few applications such as Keyers, IDers, Code Readers, and Code Teaching/Learning Devices. Has anyone out there used a PIC in an Amateur Radio Application that you would be willing to tell me about? And do you have the schematics and code available anywhere that a bunch of Ham Operators could get a hold of it? I'd be interested in any application you have provided it has something to do with Ham Radio. Sorry for the short notice, but I just realized that this would be a good place to get ideas. It just slipped my mind that there are many Ham Operators out there on this list. Any ideas contributed by the list members and used in my lecture will have full credit given to the contributor/originator. So if you submit any ideas, make sure you give your name and call so that proper credit can be given, and so that anyone wanting more info will know whom to contact. A few of my projects come to mind... Remote antenna switch. (2 PICs, one on each end,) Display which antenna is selected, connect to the "Standard" ICOM, Kenwood, and Yaesu rigs. PIC Frequency sythesizer controller for a bicycle moble HF rig. PIC Forward/reflected power meter interface for my repeater. Drives both analog and digital displays, and ASCII output. PIC keyboard to Morse encoder with speed/spacing readout. PIC auto-tuner controller. I did a synthesized fox transmitter that had it's own interpreted programming language (stored in EEPROM) on an F84, but the company that was making it is no longer in business. I have the code available on my web page, since I still own it, but I don't have the rights to the hardware design. All, To those who gave me information on their projects involving PIC's I give a hearty thank you. There was some interest in these last night, but not as much as I had figured. There was quite a bit of interest in PIC's and PLL's co-existing in a project, so anyone that has and code or designs they can share regarding this setup, please let me know and I'll pass it along to the group. And thanks to Eric Sells at Microchip for supplying CD's, Pens, and Line Cards to hand out. This was very generous. Especially since he shipped it to me on short notice. Thanks very much Eric. I told the group that I would post some of the things we talked about on my web site. So to any of those people who told me about your projects, let me know if you want your stuff posted on my site or have a link to your site from mine. I won't post anything until I hear from you. When the Baycom team released the PICPAR 9600 bps modem, I designed a similar modem for my SCC card. It used a PIC16F84, a R-2R network and an OpAmp. When the italian guy released the YAM modem, I managed to redesign my 9600 bps PIC modem to "emulate" the YAM protocol. That was easy. A 9600 bps connected to the PC serial port using the YAM protocol. Better than a TNC ! Now I have migrated that design to an Atmel AT90S2313. I have seen on the Internet a 1200 bps modem using a PIC, too.
