Hi,
Well, I'm looking into include TCP/IP connectivity to some of my
product and would love some suggestions since I'm fairly new at this.
I cant buy here the RTL8019As, is it good? What should I take care
of?

How much cost would an internet connection add in a product (aprox)
if making low qtys (<100)?

Any recommendations will be very appreciated.
Regards,

Mauricio Jancic

Mauricio,

I use the Modtronix SBC65EC (http://www.modtronix.com/product_info.php?cPath=1_36&products_id=149) on a current project. It is low cost $59 so for quantities below 100 it can be used as a daughter board. Easy to re-cad when the series grows.
Also Modtronix (or for UK residents Total Telematics) have excellent service. Less then a weeks delivery to Sweden.

If you use the Microchip TCP/IP stack most of the work is already done for you in regards of interfacing the RTL8019As and TCP/IP. Works fine

Cheers
/Ake

You might want to look at the Lantronix XPort. Aside from the device
cost and programming/web development, you may have to add some power
supply capacity.

I always wanted to add TCP/IP to a PIC uC but it is still in the TODO
work stack/queue.

Take a look to http://www.edtp.com/ to buy an assembled board.
Also there are open source projects on this:
http://www.ethernut.de/ using an Atmel
http://web51.hw-server.com/ using Intel

There is an interesting article:
TCP/IP on a PIC

No idea, it depens on your hardware. Do your numbers after doing your
balance.

RTL8019AS can be very easily hooked to ATmega128 on 2-layer board.
In the near future, I will release complete design (including gerber files)
on my site.
Hovewer if you need external RAM memory and more peripherals
(SPI flash, RTC, etc), you will need 4-layer board.

I have seen TCP/IP hardware for about $49 USD or less for qty of <100  I have not tried it yet, but I plan to tinker in the near future.  I purchased an X-port demo board, but it's been in the box for about year.

I was going to do some atm atuff via the net and intended to use the
Siteplayer. I didn't, only because it would not Pnig another device. At 30.00  bucks,
it is hard to beat for a completed unit

If you add another $15 you can get the Modtronix SBC45 (http://www.modtronix.com/index.php?cPath=1_36)  Its a much better choice IMHO. Uses the Microchip free TCP/IP stack (source available), schematics available, very good support. Can't recommend this company and its products enough. An no I'm not affiliated.

Thanks for pointing the site out, I was not aware of them (or have
forgotten them) --- they do look like good value, particularly as you
can get a EThernet stack.
