Hi group - I have been having a rather strange problem with MPLAB.
First, on my office machine (P-IV, 2.6GHz, Win2kPro) the various version of MPLAB run just fine. I recently upgraded to Ver 6.6 with no issues - no obvious advantages to the new release, but I try to keep current.
My home machine is older (P-III, 1.2GHz, WinMe). I have been running MPLAB Ver 6.3 there with no problems. Last week I tried to open a workspace which was saved on my office computer (Ver 6.6) and got an error message saying "failed to initialize Legacy Language suite with CLSID{ the usual alphabet soup }. I figured that was due to some incompatibility between 6.3 and 6.6, so I decided to upgrade my home system.
Installed Ver 6.6 and launched it - get really strange error message "Delivery of message failed due to invalid msg ID:139". I have never run into anything like that from Windows. I clicked through that error message and got my favorite "legacy language suite" message again. Clicked through that and got the "message failed" alert again. Then everything worked correctly.
Thinking that there might be some conflict between old and new versions of MPLAB on the system (registry?), I blew all instances of MPLAB off of the system and reinstalled Ver 6.6 only. Same sequence of events each time it is started. It works fine after clicking through the three error messages, but I don't like them being there - with Microsoft that usually means a bear trap waiting to snap.
So, anyone have an idea what this is about? Easy guess - its Windows Me. Unfortunately this computer (HP) has no upgrade path to install Win2K or XP, so I think I am stuck with Me. Therefore, I'm looking for a fix. I checked MicroChip's website for notes on Ver 6.6 or WindowsME, but nothing showed up.
Any other ideas cheerfully accepted.
