Hi,
Due to a fire at my workplace and total destruction of everything I
have put together and treasured over many years, Im trying to put as
much back together as I can.
An excellent technical reference had been set up over a period of
many years.  Some of the more modern books are not such a concern as
they shall still be available.

Two particular books that I know are no longer in print but desire
to obtain are:

(1)         The Art of Electronics (1st Edition, Black dust jacket )  {PS
           I know that the second edition exist}

(2)             ??? (see below)

This was about 2% of the technical reference collection

???   This was a really good analog(ue) book.
Picked up a few years ago in a secondhand bookshop.  Here goes this
is what I remember about it, possible title 'Linear applications
handbook' (although I think that is what texas produced, this was
not a texas book), believed to be published by TAB, size is about A5
with perhaps a 1" strip taken off its longest edge about an inch and
half thick, it had a lot of really good stuff in it,(not just what
you would get in a standard text book) such as an analogue
multipler using opamp, led and ORP12 (cds cell), it had all the usual
as well amplifier circuits, instrumentation ?, power supplies?

Please could anyone help with identification off this book, sorry
its not much to go on, I dont judge books by cover only contents.

Please could anyone tell me if there are any good second hand
bookshops, particularly in uk, that specialise in technical
publications.

If you are near Cambridge take a trip to the bookstores downtown (Farrows??? is a name that I faintly recall). It has been 10 years since I was there, but Cambridge in particular has a couple of very nice and well stocked technical book stores - You could mosey over to the correct section and find your book quickly. Then you would be able to get the ISBN, etc and perhaps order it used or otherwise from Amazon (or even pick it up used there).

Haven't tried Oxford, but it is likely they have something like it and they are positioned a little better for non-Londoners.

Good luck.

Dan

Andy,

Sorry to hear of your loss. The two books you mentioned are of course a very
popular text,  "The Art of Electronics",  which is authored by Horowitz &
Hill and I would venture to say the second may be written by Don Lancaster,
a very prolific author of very practical soft cover technical books. If
Amazon.com is of no help, certainly they can be obtained here in the States
and some kind soul will help you out.

Let us know.

Russell sez:

It MAY have been book of exactly that title by Linear Technology.
They did several in this series.
They are indeed superb reference books - arguably among the best I have ever
seen.
I think that all the application notes are now available on their web site
so that may be an alternative to replacement.

Thanks to all of the suggestions so far.  I wish I could remember the
author of the blue covered book, it was a hardback book.  I have/had
many of Don Lancaster books, many whose whereabouts good or bad have
been accounted for, although admittedly I cant remember the authors
name of the book or its exact title (though I always knew where it
was), it was practical like Don Lancasters books but I'm pretty sure
if it was written by him I might remember.  I feel that I usually
remember authors when I have/had many written by the same, such as R
Marston, RA Penfold, Nigel Gardner etc..

What I'm missing here? What's the difference from
the second edition? The second edition is available
from Amazon!

I have a paper back book from Analog Devices that matches your size
and content description. It's called "nonlinear circuits handbook". I
have a second edition (1976). ISBN 0-916550-01-X.
Another similar book is "Transducer Interfacing Handbook". Also
Analog Devices. ISBN 0-916550-05-2. Both are edited by D.H Sheingold.

Steve.

Hi Andy,

Was it blue ? Could it be "National Semiconductor Linear Applications
Databook" ?
My copy is dated 1986 and it's one of the most useful databooks I've ever
seen.
Maybe it's still avaliable or avlailable on CD ?

I dont think that your missing anything, Ive grown attatched to the
1st edition, know where things are, and I prefer the paper, the
paper is far too thin on the second edition.  I do have the 2nd
edition but need to locate 1st Edition.

It was blue, but hardback, and as I remember it wasnt actually a
'data/apps' book from a 'chip' manufacturer.  It was like a
collection of circuit ideas with excellent discriptions of how they
work.

Wouldn't it be :

"The Art of Linear Electronics" - John Linsley Hood - ISBN 0-7506-3746-3

It's an amazing book for those "analog" inclined.
