i have been trying to access the microchip site since friday morning. was
there something i had missed ?
anybody know what is going on?
i got an application something like the sonar pic.
send pulse(1 to 10 us)  ..listen...capture time ..do pwm for analog output
voltage,,
my calculations need 10 mhz clock (100ns) simple and fast.
but i wanted to do a device lookup parameter.
seems the site is unreachable.   tim..

Looks more like the DNS entry for Microchip got toasted. Maybe they
forgot to pay the bill (it happened to Microsoft).

Anyone know  (still have in cache) the IP address for http://www.microchip.com?

Looks like their nameserver is at..

       PROMETHEUS.MICROCHIP.COM     198.175.253.66

Is not responding to DNS queries, the server seems to be up, I can
traceroute to it but it doesn't respond to pings or dns. I suspect that
prometheus has passed into the netherworld.

Looks like: http://198.175.253.68/ works ok
or http://198.175.253.68/11110/helper.htm

Just tried up the chain a bit.

Thank you!  I had been searching for f877 schematics just to get the
pinouts, as (un)luck would have it tonight is the night to start fiddling
around.  And I didn't have the data sheet downloaded yet.

How a public company with a $5B market cap can be effectively off the net
for a full day (and counting) I just do not understand...

Stuff happens.  Since they have a main line of work that is not on line, a
company like Microchip probably does not have a deep enough Internet
engineering staff to ensure there is no single point of failure anywhere
in their infrastructure.  I have been responsible for the Internet
connectivity and still am responsible for the Web/app servers for a large,
publicly traded company that literally lives and dies by the Internet...
it's easier than it looks to have a major outage if you haven't invested a
truly frightening amount of money, time and talent on it.  In a former
life I started and ran an ISP...  so I know how to do things on both ends
of the cost spectrum.  There are more ways to lose connectivity than you
can imagine.
