'[TECH] PC motherboard help/suggestions'

I have had 2 Intel DP965-LT classic series motherboards, 2 have been replaced under warranty by Intel which was not bad experience, and have an intermittent one, probably heating related. Sometimes firm sideways pressure on the big heat sink near the CPU, and it will be OK for an hour or 2. Appears that wave soldering missed vias in a 3" circle roughly near the middle of the board. I have twice gone and hand cleaned the bare copper with fine grit nylon (wasn't that tarnished) and hand soldered, leaving smooth shiny solder at the vias, trying to leave the solder tip for more than basic melting, which has helped. When Intel Mb's were made in Ireland they were bulletproof, but these Chinese are junk!
3 Questions:
1: Is there any other actions I might do to salvage these boards. Doesn't seem like it's components?
2: New same model boards are available $60, but I feel that would be a waste. There are some reconditioned boards out there a little less costly, don't know where the rehab was done, but could ask, and if not China, might be worth a try. My thinking is there is a very common defect, easily fixed with right equipment, and these could be better than new. Thoughts?
3: These boards are following spec's:
socket LGA775, 3ghz, dual core CPU, DDR2, 800mhs FSB, (1) PCI-E16 graphics, (3) PCI, (3) PCI-1, (6) USB, (4) USB on board, (1) RS-232, (1) printer port.
I have found SuperMicro C2SBC-Q-O @ $160 that looks like it will do the job. What are comments on Supermicro products. They have 1 year warranty, Intel has 3 years. Should I bite the bullet and spend the money. Are there any other products suggested.
Thanking in advance for comments. :)

Carl, I always look at Asus motherboards first. The Z68 chipset boards
can do some amazing things and I've never had a motherboard failure
with Asus or Abit. (Not so for Gigabyte or other cheaper brands.)

thanks will look. one of the issues is finding something that matches the CPU (I don't want to spend that money), and has lots of ports for flexibility. I do use most of them routinely. :)

I don't think they have Z86 for socket 775. They do for socket 1155.
I have an ASUS P8-P67 and Core i7 and I've never ever experienced a
motherboard failure with ASUS. I have with other bands like Gigabyte.
You might just want to build yourself a new computer using modern
components (DDR3, AMD Bulldozer CPU, modern motherboard). It shouldn't be
too expensive actually, since I don't think you're going to be sticking a
$500 video card in there

Thanks for the comments. :)
I didn't find any 775 socket Asus boards out there. Was trying to save on not buying a 3G dual core CPU, and 4G memory, which might be around $200 (just did a rough search, without pinning down exact parts). I do have middle/upper range ATI PCI-e16 video cards with HDTV in and out. Otherwise computer is current with (2) SATA 300G HDD, and energy efficient PSU. I usually spend some money every year upgrading. Don't need super performance, but do need flexibility on I/O. Even use the parallel printer ports with printers that have parallel and USB or RS-232. One cable goes to one computer other to another that's networked mostly. Then if a computer isn't available for some reason, the other one is set up ready to go. Was really hoping for something USA made, but that's rare.
Did just find at Compuvest a new/pull Asus motherboard fro $56 that appears to accept my CPU and memory. Would have to dig deeper and confirm that. Also it's a Micro ATX, another thing to check, and no RS-232. Need that to talk to a PLC for the standby generator, could pick up a couple of RS-232 to USB convertors, more monkey business. Tis one might be a candidate for a TV server that's another project.
