Gus:

All metals have different chemical properties.  Putting any 2 (non-noble;
i.e., gold, platinum) metals together creates a very small galvanic charge
that eventually will corrode one or both metals.  In the case of aluminum,
if you want to make it non-reactive, you can have the aluminum "passivated"
.  See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Passivation  I have used this process
many times to prevent aluminum corrosion.

It is not cheap so it depends on your application.

of water ?

I am trying to learn what metals will be safe when mated with aluminium.

Would it be acceptable to put an insulating layer between, say a coat of
paint, layer of plastic film, etc.? Does the interface need to have
structural strength, i.e. carry a calculated load. There are available
plastic fasteners, including some that are pultruded and then threaded
that have load ratings that are more than trivial.

Thanks to all for the suggestions.  I may go with the plastics ideas.
