Hi all!
I need some guidence here, I want to build the following system:
A digital thermostat that displays its information (current temp, hi/lo etc) on
a 4x40 lcd (scott edwards), be able to send this info via serial (low baud rate
okay), be able to receive "hi/lo" alarm info (if the temp goes above or below
make a buzz..) from serial.
Now I was looking at the CCS C compiler, and they do support serial support.
So, what pic(s) do you recommend? What verison of the CCS compiler do I need (i
guess it's based on the pic selection), and finally, I currently own a Parallax
Pic Burner, so can it be burned using this hardware or do I need other
hardware?
Any advice would be greatly appriciated!

Microchip is actually recommending the Hi Tech C compilier for use with
there mid range parts. You could probably meet your requirements with a
PIC17C73A or (74A if you need more pins).
I'm not sure about the Parallax Pic Burner, I know that you can burn
chips
with the Microchip programmer with Parallax Object code, but I've never
tried it the other way.

Hi,
RS232 transmission is not hard with PICs. If you are doing the rest in
assembler I wouldn't bother with a C compiler.
