"Firmware" typically refers to software that has been burned into a read-only
device, such as a ROM, PROM, EPROM, EEPROM, etc.
I don't know whether programs on a CD-ROM count as "firmware" though...

If i remember correctly then Firmware is programm that is needed for device
to operate as planned. Whit out it. device is useless. In that point, My
computers bios is firmware, since it's needed for computer to start
working.
