Hello, I used to print my assembler sources 132 chars wide to allow for generous comments. Being forced to switch to Winvirus95 I have a problem. Can't find a way to print my flat ASCII files 132 wide to an oldfashioned matrix printer. To be exact it is a STAR LC10. I have 2 parallel ports. LPT1 configured as graphic, LPT2 configured as a Windows generic ascii printer. With a switch box I can move the printer to each port so switch between graphic and text mode. I like my sources to be printed this way printer because I can lay out the whole listing on the floor (yes, I've got a huge livingroom, and sometimes huge listings too, and sometimes pain in my knees) and follow (mark) with different color felt tip pens the flow of the program. Used as a debugging tool I found quickly lots of flow problems this way. The point is: Winvirus95 appears to insert a CR-LF at the 80-th position, so the lines wrap before they get to the printer. It is obviously a devicedriver problem. Summary: I want to put the Windows95 LPT2 driver in 132 mode as MS-DOS did it. I like wide outputs but use a Laserjet, so I need to put it into condensed mode for some text files and leave it standard for most things. I have a batch file with the following line: copy c:\util\prncmp1.txt + %1 + c:\util\prncmp2.txt lpt1 The two txt files contain the escape characters to put the printer into condensed font, make the page wider and longer and then set it back again. I have a shortcut to the batch file on the desktop and if I want to print a listing, just drag the file from Explorer and drop it onto the shortcut. Bills drivers never get to see it. Thanks Steve, the problem is not to put the printer in condensed mode, that has to be done too, and your method works fine for laserprinters etc. I wrote backend scripts for lpd queues that do about the same... Winvirus95 prints only 80 characters on a line and then inserts CR-LF so the rest goes to the next line...
