I see Mchip actually got two guys in Taiwan thrown in
jail (7 months) for copyright infringements yesterday.
Here's their gloat :
http://www.microchip.com/10/Edit/pRelease/PR103/index.htm
With their past record of credibility when it comes to
genuine patent concerns (see the above two links), I can't
help but wonder if these two guys got the short end of the
stick.... I think they probably made the mistake of publicly
comparing their micro's to PICs. Scenix was a *LOT* cleverer
when they said that they were going after a different market.
I can't find any more information on the details, but I *did*
notice that Mchip's stock went up by $1.9375 to $35.625 after
the anouncement, and hey, that's what is important, isn't it?
Does anyone know where we can get some more info? I like
to know who (what) I am buying from.

check http://syntekt.com.tw/products.HTM
I can not assure it, and I don't know if this is the correct Sintek because
is a usual name in the market (and I apologize *A LOT* if I am wrong). But
located in taiwan, related to controllers, and with full custom ASIC
development..
If somebody wants to correct me, I will be glad to apologize again

Alas, that is interesting. I wonder if they are the folks that were making
the asia sourced 5X knockoffs that the cheerful fellow was hawking on our
PicList. (Ages ago.. anyone out there remember?) Just a neutral curiosity,
I always wondered who they were, if the part was a true compatible,
etcetera. The avid among us may still have it in an arcive somewhere.

An apparently reputable firm here (New Zealand) is selling 16C54
clones for about 1/2 Microchip prices.
