Today I *carefully* shot an ISD1416 speech chip with freezer spray, and like the sad-departed PIC, it was fine as it dropped into hypothermia. BAD news. It hung up its clogs as it WARMED up, just like it's departed friend, the PIC. Did both die from thermal shock, perhaps the connections from the die to the outer package being unable to keep up with the thermal expansion of the extremities? Freezer spray is well known for causing similar problems. Low charge freezer spray is apparently available although i've never tried it.
