'Still having problems downloading to ProMate'

I'm still having problems downloading to ProMate from within
MPLAB. I am able to download using either the old promate.exe or the new
procmd.exe. This is all through COM2 on a 486DX2-66 running WFW 3.11.
I've tried everything in the help files. The download runs for awhile,
then stops after 0x700 or so words download. I suspect a problem with
handshaking or some sort of buffer overrun. It MIGHT be possible to fix
it by just slowing down the transmission, but there appears to be no
setting other than COM port in MPLAB.
I AM able to use procmd.exe for production programming, but it's
sure a pain to program a quick prototype with it. Any ideas?

I mentioned to you before that I had the same problem (but with Win9x),
and it went away when I upgraded MPLAB. Which software versions are you
using? Mine are:
MPLAB 4.11
ProMate 5.00.00
Before I upgraded, sometimes it would take up to 10 attempts to download
to the ProMate. When I got really frustrated, I would reboot my PC and
the download would work the first time. I suspect you're correct that
handshaking is the problem.

I'm running MPLAB 4.12 and ProMate 5.00.00 . I believe
handshaking (RTS-CTS) is working since the downloads are fine under DOS,
though it could be that Windoze is dozing while running under DOS (a DOS
session in Windoze) is faster. I'll see if I can find my RS232 breakout
box and see if the appropriate lights are flashing...

Hang me if I'm wrong (I've never done low-level PC programming) but aren't
interrupts easier to control in DOS than in Windoze? I figure that the
handshaking is imperative and needs to be precise, so maybe the inerrupts
while in windows effects that. Just a thought...

Hi
I had the same problem with the picstart,
Read the help files, running it under win95.
Went into system,
ports,
com1,
advanced port settings.
then turned off the "use fifo buffers" option,
My picstart now works fine every time. my work with thw ProMate
