Robert,
I believe there is still a version of a 17C42 Forth on Microchip's BBS. Check
out the Forth Interest Group for any new developments. They can be reached at:
The problem with Forth running on PICs is the limitations of stack space. The
17C42 has enough resources for a Forth implementation, but the mid-range (14-bit
core) and low end (12-bit core) are a real challenge, even for Forth. The
better approach here might be some sort of Forth compiler running on the PC
which produces assembly code rather than a true Forth. I have seen such a
system described by Andrew McKewen (sp?) for the 6805. I believe he published a
paper on it for the FORML conference around 1990/1.
There is a company in England selling Forth related tools, as well. I don't
have the information in front of me, but I can get you more information if you'd
like.
