Yep, thats for sure, it does look like a mighty promising beast.
I have been talking directly with the Atmel rep in Europe about where
this device is going .... keep a lookout for devices with more onboard
peripherals in the next six months!
If they have gone for the complete in system programming solution, I
hope to god they have got the in system emulation and debugging sorted
out. They could learn from Motorola 56000 DSP's here with what they
call the OnCE port (On Chip Emulator), it really is the business when
you can do in circuit emulation/debugging.
The C compiler (from IAR, so it is ANSI) looks very good indeed, if
any body has got some Hitec code they good run on the demo of the IAR
compiler this would be interesting!

I agree. I just got a bunch of AT90S1200s -- $3 each. The instruction
set and architecture is -extremely- nice.
I'm putting off one project that I was going to do in a C65 until the
bigger AVR chips arrive. I can see myself getting into AVR in a big way.
And basically out of PICs.
Certainly worth a look.
