Hi,
Thanks for all answers. I didn't know when I asked for stopping cellular phone
that it become a major subject on piclist !
A lot of interesting answers, conduct me to precise things :
- It's for France country : so we are not under FCC control. Jamming is
tolerate if emission stay in the building.
- Some of you proposed to forbid usage of cellular phone in hospital or others
building (theater...) : again I'm in France and peoples don't respect rules.
"the real problems are stupidity, lack of understanding/courtesy" (thanks
mark). Some young stupid people, think to be 'in" or (for joking) american
like!
- Problem is not interfering with medical equipment. Just to respect sleep and
tranquility.
- Someone reported to me that he saw a message on cellular's LCD "blocked :
forbidden usage". I was in a hospital for old people (old people's home) when
I heard ringings of telephone. Theses ringings disturbed everyone, including
the nurses. The choice of the ringings did not have anything discrete.
I thus thought of studying something.
Thanks for opinions and I you have an idea, do not hesitate!
Dan.

The GSM frequencies are privately owned. Jamming will definitely not
be tolerated by the networks. I can guarantee you that one of the
following French network operators will 'frown' on your device :
Bouygues Telecom (GSM 1800)
France Telecom
Itineris
SFR

I think you will find the converse when it comes to radio frequencies....

As it is, GSM devices are not particularly welcome when it comes to
life-supporting equipment due to the modulation (TDMA, FDMA, CDMA etc),
but as long as you are not close to such a medical machine, no-one
will be endangered. If, on the other hand, you decide to build a device
with enough output power and frequency spread to jam all GSM phones in
the hospital, you may just end up giving a patient in intensive care
permanent 'sleep' and 'tranquility' when they die.
If you just want to fool around at home or in a restaurant or so, go
ahead, but keep in mind that the more effective your jammer becomes,
the bigger the lawsuit against you can be... If my kid had to die
because of some jammer that a prankster had built, I'd sue his ass
all the way down.
