Gday,
Has anybody done any work with a Sony remote control such as used on a
DA90ESG receiver?
This is not the standard remote (I have already done that one) but instead
operates at a much
higher frequency. The code appears to be 34 bit quadary (if there is such a
word, eg has 4 bit lengths).
I think the Infrared carrier is around 120KHZ but I am not sure yet and
requires a "special" pickup unlike the 40KHZ type.

Hello, I'm doing my final exam for SONY and have build a WORKING IR
TRANSMITTER. If you have any questions, just ask me. By the way, the carrier
used by the SONY standard is always 40 kHz isn't it ???

Hi Glenn,
The DA90ESG Sony receiver which uses the "egg" remote in Australia operates
on a much higher carrier frequency and also transmits data at a much higher
rate as well as a lot longer data string.
Looking at the data on a scope it appears to have 4 pulse lengths as well as
a 18 bit address and 16 bit function, I also suspect that there is a
checksum in there as well. The IR carrier is around 120KHZ.

The way it is used is you navigate using the egg and a on screen display
like a mouse on a computer screen and choose a function, the DA90ESG then
retransmits the appropriate 40KHZ IR to the device you want to control such
as the Video recorder or CD player. The reasone for the different
frequencies I expect is so it doesn't listen to its self and has time to
send continuous IR streams such as fast forward on a Video recorder without
it thinking you have let go of the button.

Any information you could shed on the protocol and frequencies and timing
would be gratefully appreciated.
