Why is there not a small program that can be downloaded into a C84 that
will execute and write all the required used data and then halt. This
could then be overwritten with the proper program before placing the
chip into the target board.
The question really is, can the C84 execute (at any speed) in the
standard range of programmers?

With AN589 you can download and run a PIC84 whilst still connected. Just my
0.02 pounds sterling worth. I have been watching the MIPP discussion with
interest, but I am still pleased that I built the AN589 hardware. I am
going to get stuck when I build my next project though as it will be based
on a PIC62, so for that I shall probably build Robin Abbott's general
purpose one.
