How many morons does it take to fill up the piclist with total spam
unrelated to PICs, or even microcontrollers? Hmmm. I could make a list
(particularly now that I am on it...)
But more seriously, why not take the useless martian mathematical
discussions elsewhere. If you don't know how to use a LM723, then get the
)*&&(%^ databook. If you need a recipe for blackened catfish, DON'T ask in
the piclist.
Maybe Metcalfe is right when he says that the Internet will die this year.
It will die of hardening of the arteries related to all the cholesterol
soaked SPAM.
Folks, please, this list is the "PIC microcontroller discussion list."
Let's keep it that way.

Lighten up, Jeff... Downloading a few number-problem posts won't
kill you.
Besides, it's hard to take seriously a complaint like this when it's
posted by someone who doesn't appreciably contribute to the list
himself. I've posted 335 ON-TOPIC messages to this list -- mostly
answers to questions posed by other list-subscribers -- since the
first of the year; I figure I'm ALLOWED to post a message like my
last one (and like this one) every once in a while.

Jeff,
It was probably before your time, but a recent thread on
sqrt spam produced a very tasty program. Andy's "newer quiz"
thread deals with a subject closely related cryptography
and has the potential of producing some very nutritious
spam.
To be more specific, the solution to his quiz revolves
closely around Mersenne Prime numbers. And unless you've
been programming your PIC's night and day for the last
month, you probably know that the latest Mersenne Prime
number to be discovered was 2^1257787 - 1. The so called
perfect numbers are related to the Mersenne Primes as
follows:
p.n. = m.p. * (m.p.+1)/2
where m.p. is a Mersenne Prime and p.n. is a perfect number.

I, on the other "hand", enjoy a bit of tom foolery. PIC people are by nature
a bunch of creative folks. This is a simple release.
Jeff, use the subject line.

Jeff, How long have you been around here? You've missed the point...

The martian math is extremely relavent. See PIC's don't have any built in
math functions. So this discussion maps up well with stuff like binary to
BCD/ASCII conversion, fixed point math, trig functions, and whatnot.

You sir haven't seen the SPAM the list really has had. SPAM like the
knucklehead that kept sending the magazine subscription service every
other week.
See if this discussion were really spam, then folks like Andrew (who is
one of the MAJOR MAJOR contributors to this list) would be participating.

You'll see. You'll need a PIC to convert trinary values into a BCD number.
Then you'll be wondering where the hell that Martian Math thread, which
is precisely what you need, went....

You picked the wrong thread to start a SPAM discussion on. Wait for a real
one, then go after them...

Which brings up the discussion of a PIC list FAQ. Is there one? If so,
where is it and where are the archives of our lively discussions? There has
been several times when I wanted to find something like the Martian Math
thread but didn't want to "bother" the list with such trivial inquiries.
Just wondering

Right. I don't know how to approximate it with mere human digits, but

this is great ! how can we survive in this techno-jungle if we lose
the sense of humor ?
come on guys this place is not a church it's supposed to be a group
of creative open-minded horde of pic-fans
to be serious is the same as intentionally decrease your creativity
who cares if someone asks a stupid question or an off topic one
this leads to the other idea : the guys whining about off topic posts
are the ones filling up the list with useless posts
one off topic question is ONE twelve replies is too much off topic
remember this is a pic discussion list not a complaining list for
off tipoc qeustoin .
this is my oopinion
don't flame me 'cause it'll create more posts

Oh, just a piece of inconsequential US cultural
paraphenalia... :)
Actually, it's a sign of respect offered by all
US citizens to their elected representatives in
appreciation of the efforts of those reps to
uphold the beacon of democracy and enlightenment
in this benighted world.
Ah, the city on the hill... <sigh>

PS: obviously we don't get enough US television here in
Australia, or you would have known this. ;)

The problem isn't that we don't appreciate your stupid jokes, for that is
a matter of taste.
It's that I have to wade through all of them when I try to read the mail.
I have no interest
in how you waste your own time - it is, after all, yours. But you're
wasting mine. And since
I only have so much time in my life, that's not only rude, but criminal!
